What Is the Gospel Coalition?

Every generation is at risk of losing the gospel. Temptations, distractions, false teachings, idols—so much can compromise our faith and derail our mission. But if the church is to thrive, we must be clear on the gospel, on what it is and what it means for all areas of life.

That’s why the Gospel Coalition exists. We seek to support the church by providing resources that are trusted and timely, winsome and wise, and centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are pastors, parents, students, artists, entrepreneurs, church members. We’re from every tribe, every tongue, and every nation.

We’re not united by culture, nationality, or politics, but by the cross of Jesus Christ. We gather together to proclaim God’s glory. We equip one another to know God’s Word. We engage culture to illuminate God’s truth. We are a movement of reform and renewal, helping Christians love God, know his Word, and engage the world with grace and truth.

We are not pursuing power or prosperity, popularity, or applause. We are pursuing faithfulness to God and the glorious gospel of his son, Jesus Christ. As Jesus said, “In this world, we have much tribulation. But take heart, I have overcome the world.” In his death and resurrection, there is salvation and forgiveness of sins, new and eternal life, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and reconciliation to God.

This is the good news that the world desperately needs to hear. And spreading this news is what The Gospel Coalition is about.

In Don Carson’s article, “The Gospel Coalition Is a Coalition,” he explains that “we are not a monolith; we are a coalition. What holds us together is our shared commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ, as expressed in our Foundation Documents—our Confessional Statement and our Theological Vision of Ministry.”
